Mysterious Illness Affecting Women Is On The Rise
More and more women are being diagnosed with Hematohidrosis, a rare medical condition that causes a person to sweat blood.
Recently, a young lady in Italy reported that she bled from her hands and face whenever she would break a sweat. Information regarding her specific case was published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.
Surely, this condition must be so rare that very few women have it, right?
Not quite.
Surprisingly, Hematohidrosis is on the rise.
While Hematohidrosis may not be something you’ve heard of before, a report in Science Alert indicates that researchers studied 76 different cases of the condition between the 17th century until the 80’s.
More recently, reported cases of Hematohidrosis were reported in 2009, 2010, and 2013. There have also been 28 other cases of Hematohidrosis over the last 13 years.
Hematohidrosis: Cause/Treatment
The condition remains a bit of a mystery to doctors and researchers alike who have debated in the past whether or not Hematohidrosis is a real medical condition. If there is a trigger to the condition, it’s possible the culprit is extreme stress or emotional duress.
The combination of stress and wanting to hide the condition can also lead to depression.
Doctors have treated Hematohidrosis in the past with depression medication and medication typically used to treat patients with high blood pressure.
The treatment options have proven to help the symptoms of Hematohidrosis, but do not cure the condition.
