Kelly Rowland Drops New Video ‘Crown’
Kelly Rowland has a new empowerment song titled “Crown,” and she just dropped the video for it.
A member of the hit girl group Destiny’s Child, Rowland is no stranger to women’s empowerment anthems. “Crown” is a song about women embracing their hair in whatever state. The video starts off with pre-teens and teenagers talking about being bullied for their hair. Rowland can be seen in the video dancing among young women in a hot pink coat, black and white polka dot shirt, and ripped jeans, while shopping for clothes, and exuding confidence.
The video was produced in collaboration with Dove.
The singer is slated to host the 12th annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards, this month. Yesterday, Essence announced that Rowland will host the awards that will honor actresses Regina Hall, Jenifer Lewis, Amandla Stenberg, and KiKi Layne.
This morning, Rowland wrote a heartfelt letter to her younger self on Instagram where she referenced “Crown”.
“Let me start by saying what a smart young lady you are, you were born a Queen! And even though the world doesn’t show you enough beautiful images of yourself, you are one of a kind, and don’t let ANYONE tell you different.
I wrote a song for you, about your “Crowning Glory!” I hope you like it!
I know you don’t hear it much, how “Beautiful Your hair is”, your unique and various textures and colors, that make you UNIQUE and SPECIAL. Just know, no one wears your CROWN like you Baby Girl! And you don’t have to look like ANYONE ELSE! You are Kelly Rowland and special in your own right, Contrary to anyone else’s standards! Love Yourself, Respect Yourself, and hold your head high for all to see!
