Hailee Steinfeld: Will She Co-Star With Jeremy Renner in Marvel’s ‘Hawkeye?’
Hailee Steinfeld dipped her toe into the world of Marvel last year, when she provided the voice for Gwen Stacy in the animated film, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. But she might be considering a deeper dive and a bigger committment, according to Variety. Variety reports that Steinfeld has been offered a lead role in the upcoming Hawkeye series at Disney Plus.
Jeremy Renner, who played Hawkeye, aka Clint Barton, in a number of Marvel Cinematic Universe films, including 2011’s Thor, 2012’s The Avengers, 2015’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron, 2016’s Captain America: Civil War and this year’s Avengers: Endgame, will reprise his role in the Disney Plus series. According to Variety, if Steinfeld joins the cast, she will play Kate Bishop. In the comic books, Bishop takes up the Hawkeye mantle after Clint Barton.
While Marvel’s Disney Plus shows are expected to have six to eight episodes per season, taking the role is most likely a bigger committment than just signing on for a short TV series: it seems like Disney wants a synergy between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Disney Plus shows. Up until now, Marvel’s TV shows (including Netflix’s Daredevil, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, as well as ABC’s Agents Of SHIELD) have referenced the films, but haven’t really affected them. That seems likely to change: Marvel has already announced that the WandaVision show on Disney Plus will lead right into the second Dr. Strange film. It’s reasonable to think that the Kate Bishop character might end up in future Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
