‘The Shining’ Sequel: Watch The ‘Doctor Sleep’ Trailer Now
Stephen King has always been very clear that he didn’t like the 1980 film version of his 1977 horror novel, The Shining, directed by Stanley Kubrick. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, King said, “My problem with Kubrick’s film was that it’s so cold.”
We’re not quite sure what that means, but the trailer for the adaptation of King’s follow-up to The Shining — Doctor Sleep — certainly references exact images from Kubrick’s film a number of times in the first few seconds. The familiar “REDRUM” scrawled on the wall, the ax-smashed hole in the bathroom door, the creepy twins calling out to Danny Torrance. And yeah, the blood-filled elevators. We don’t know if anyone has been at the Overlook Hotel in the years since Danny escaped, but it definitely looks like the place that has haunted our dreams — and Danny’s — for decades.
Doctor Sleep picks up 40 years after the events of The Shining and stars Ewan McGregor in the starring role of an adult Dan Torrance.
