Jay Electronica Responds To Joe Budden After He Throws Shade At His Debut Album
On Tuesday, Jay Electronica took to Twitter to respond to Joe Budden’s podcast co-host Rory for his criticism of Electronica’s debut album A Written Testimony. Electronica tagged Rory in a Twitter post of a meme of someone eating and saying, “Aye [expletive] it,” along with another meme that read, “Joe Budden hasn’t dropped a classic in his life and he’s critiquing Jay Electronica and Hov.” “I never got absolutely mopped around on my own project either… @ me, not Rory,” Budden wrote on Twitter.

“I never heard your albums, bro,” Electronica then responded. “may Allah bless your career as a journalist.” Budden, who’s retired from rapping and has found success as a podcast host, then said that he made a cut of A Written Testimony where he removed Jay Electronica and just left Jay-Z’s parts. If you haven’t heard A Written Testimony, Jay-Z is featured pretty much throughout the entire album.

Jay Electronica recently dropped his debut album, A Written Testimony, after making fans wait a decade. Some Electronica fans were disappointed that the rapper’s first album turned out to be a joint release with Jay-Z instead of a standalone project. During Saturday’s episode of Budden’s podcast, the retired rapper criticized A Written Testimony, calling Jay Electronica’s decision to have Hov on his debut album “a mistake,” as Complex reports.
“It is a mistake,” Budden said. “As a rapper, I’m telling you, [Jay Electronica] got smacked around [by Jay-Z]”. The podcast host and reality TV star also admitted that he was hating on Electronica. However, he felt like Electronica’s bars on the album were underwhelming.
“Granted, this is hate, but it’s rapper hate,” Budden continued. “Because, when y’all move the goalpost, as a rapper, I see it. For the last decade, y’all have mentioned Jay Elec with Hov. And Jay Elec positions himself that way on arguably one of the greatest tracks ever on ‘Exhibit C.’ That is god-level rhyming. … ‘Hate’ is my underwhelmed. For me to say I’m underwhelmed, I didn’t go into it expecting anything.”
Jay Electronica concluded the barb throwing on Twitter by saying that he’s willing to chat with both Budden and Rory on air, adding “make sure yall give me my credit for lighting up that next podcast episode too. #DrakeIsMySpiritAnimal.”
