Cardi B Appears In New NYC Census PSA
Bronx rapper Cardi B appears in a new census public service announcement video for New York City.“NYC! Proud to work with NYC Census & @julmenin to get the word out and make sure we get our city’s fair share,” Cardi wrote in the caption of the video that she shared on Instagram.
“Don’t let this virus distract you from the fact that this census is IMPORTANT, now more than ever, to getting the resources we NEED in our communities. Fill out the census at – 2020census.gov or call 844-330-2020 to fill out the census. IT ONLY TAKES 10 MINUTES. Thank You.”
The “Money” rapper does two different versions of the PSA, one in English as well as one in Spanish.“New York City, 2020 is a huge opportunity to make our voice heard. This year, we have the power to decide our city’s future,” Cardi said in the video.
“Not just for the next four years, but for the next ten by getting counted in the census. The census is about money, power, and respect,” Cardi continued, quoting the hook on The Lox’s 1998 hit single “Money, Power, Respect,” featuring DMX and Lil Kim.
“If our city is undercounted we risk being misrepresented, especially for our communities of color.” Cardi also said that in 2010, only sixty-two percent of New Yorkers filled out the census.
“In 2020, I’mma tell you something. We can’t let this happen again. If you want to stand up to the status quo and the decided people of power start by getting counted in the census,” Cardi B continued. “And remember, the citizenship question is off the census.
