Baltimore Mayor Declares Local Rapper’s ‘Mask Up’ Song As Baltimore’s Official COVID-19 Anthem
Baltimore Mayor Bernard Jack Young declared “Mask Up,” a song by local rapper Alexis “Chink” Harris’. as the city’s official COVID-19 anthem, encouraging the Northeast city’s residents to wear face masks and maintain social distancing, as WBAL TV reports.
“Six feet! That’s what’s social distance means. Back up! And practice social distancing,” Harris raps on the track. “Mask up cause I don’t want your germs on me. I’mma need six feet and keep ya mask on, please.”
“As musicians, it’s our job to use our creativity as well as our voices to help as many people as we can,” Harris wrote on her Instagram page about the track that’s now used as Baltimore’s PSA.
“The song/ PSA was made in efforts to make it cool for kids as well as adults to wear mask and have social safety embedded in their heads just like any other song you can’t forget.”
“Despite all the negativity, It’s amazing to see this reach MILLIONS of people in a day! Stay safe out there,” Harris said.
