J.C. Penney Announce 154 Store Locations Closing Due to Bankruptcy
J.C. Penney has announced the first 154 of 242 store locations that will be closing due to filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Per USA Today, the department store is the biggest company to file for bankruptcy during the coronavirus pandemic. After the closing of the 242 locations, this will leave J.C. Penney with about 600 locations.
Bankruptcy hearings are currently slated for June 11. If Judge David Jones approves of the Penney’s bankruptcy proposal, “going-out-of-business” sales would begin that day and run for the next 10-16 weeks.
