Tom Hanks On People Who Don’t Wear Masks: ‘I’ve Got No Respect For You’
In a recent interview on the TODAY Show to promote his new film, Greyhound, Tom Hanks got straight to the point about COVID-19 and doing what it takes to stay safe.
He said, “The idea of doing one’s part, though, should be so simple — wear a mask, social distance, wash your hands. That alone means you are contributing to the betterment of your house, your work, your town, your society as a whole, and it’s such a small thing. It’s a mystery to me how somehow that has been wiped out of what should be ingrained in the behavior of us all.”
Tom then talks about how America is responding to the virus. “I think a huge majority of Americans get it. There’s no law against ignorance, it’s not illegal to have opinions that are wrong. There is a darkness on the edge of town here, folks. Let’s not confuse the fact, it’s killing people. I don’t know how common sense has somehow been put in question in regards to this.”

In another interview with AP News, he is a little more blunt about the response to coronavirus. He says, “I don’t get it, I simply do not get it, it is literally the least you can do. If anybody wants to build up an argument about doing the least they can do, I wouldn’t trust them with a driver’s license.”
“I mean, when you drive a car, you’ve got to obey speed limits, you’ve got to use your turn signals, you’ve got to avoid hitting pedestrians. If you can’t do those three things, you shouldn’t be driving a car.”
The actor lastly adds, “If you can’t wear a mask and wash your hands and social distance, I’ve got no respect for you, man. I don’t buy your argument.”
