Naya Rivera: Cause Of Death, Details On How She Saved Son’s Life Revealed
The autopsy has been completed, and the official cause of death for Naya Rivera has been revealed.
Per E! News, “The Ventura County Medical Examiner confirmed the identity of Rivera’s body and has determined her cause of death to be drowning and the manner of death is accident.”
They add, “The autopsy findings are consistent with a drowning and the condition of the body is consistent with the time that she was submerged. No traumatic injuries or disease processes were identified at autopsy. There is no indication from the investigation or examination that drugs or alcohol played a role.”
During the press conference yesterday announcing that Naya’s body was found, the Ventura County sheriffs revealed many details about their search. As mentioned, the search team found the actress in a region of Lake Piru that was 30 to 60-feet deep and full of trees and debris. According to Harper’s Bazaar, police also suspect that in the last moments of Naya’s life, she saved her son from drowning.
The police explained in detail, saying, “We know from speaking with her son, that he and Naya swam in the lake together at some point during their journey. It was during that time that her son described being helped into the boat by Naya, who boosted him onto the deck from behind.”
They add, “He told investigators that he looked back and saw her disappear under the surface of the water.”
The sheriff’s also explained that there were heavy currents at the lake that day. “There are a lot of currents on the lake that appear particularly in the afternoon. The idea perhaps being that the boat started drifting, it was unanchored, and that she mustered enough energy to get her son back onto the boat, but not enough to save herself.”
