Porsha Williams, Yandy Smith Arrested During Breonna Taylor Protest In Kentucky
Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams, Love and Hip Hop: New York star Yandy Smith, rapper YBN Cordae, and activist Tamika D. Mallory were among the 87 arrested during a protest on the lawn of Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, as WLKY reports.
Williams, Smith, and Mallory were booked for their involvement in a protest urging criminal charges against the Louisville police officers involved in the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor.
On March 13, Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT, was killed when she was shot eight times by law enforcement after officers broke down the door to her Louisville apartment while executing a no-knock warrant in a narcotics investigation.
Protesters were charged with intimidating a participant in a legal process, disorderly conduct in the second degree, and criminal trespassing, according to an LMPD spokesperson.
A group called Until Freedom and The Grassroots Law Project led the protest that took place. Earlier Tuesday (July 14), Williams posted a photo on Instagram.
“It’s a beautiful day to arrest the cops that murdered Breonna Taylor,” Williams wrote in her caption. “We’re in Louisville and our bottom line is there MUST be JUSTICE for #BREONNATAYLOR.”
Cops followed a huge group of protesters, many of whom were wearing face masks that read ‘Breonna Taylor,’ from Ballard High School in Louisville to the front yard of a house owned by Cameron around 4:30 p.m., a Louisville Metro Police Department release said.
Back in April, Taylor’s mother filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the cops involved: Brett Hankison, Myles Cosgrove, and Jonathan Mattingly. The Louisville Metro Police Department has since fired Hankison, as CNN reports.
