Southwest Will Stop Blocking Middle Seats In December
Social distancing has gone out the window as Southwest has announced they will allow people to sit in middle seats again. Per USA Today, this will begin on December 1.
The airline initially limited seats due to COVID-19, but now things are back to normal.
Southwest said in a press release, “This practice of effectively keeping middle seats open bridged us from the early days of the pandemic, when we had little knowledge about the behavior of the virus, to now. Today, aligned with science-based findings from trusted medical and aviation organizations, we will resume selling all available seats for travel.”
As the outlet points out, Southwest will contact passengers who have already bought tickets for December or later, this week. They will be given the option of a full refund. However, requests must be made by October 31.
They will also notify passengers a few days out from their flights and give them the option to change from full flights to less full flights at no charge.
