Input Sought on Proposed Chickenfoot Rd. Roundabout in Gray’s Creek
The North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking public input on a proposed Chickenfoot Rd. roundabout in Gray’s Creek, at the intersection with John McMillan Rd.
The intersection in the Gray’s Creek area of Hope Mills currently has a four-way stop exchange, where the DOT says 30 accidents have happened over their 10-year study period. The plan would be to slightly shift the intersection and turn it into a roundabout. The intersection is near Paradise Acres. (Click here to see the project map in PDF form.)
“The purpose of the proposed project is to enhance safety and improve traffic flow at the John McMillan Road and Chickenfoot Road intersection. There were 30 crashes at the study intersection over a ten-year study period. Twenty-three of the crashes at the intersection were crossing pattern type crashes, including vehicles failing to yield to oncoming traffic or vehicles running the stop sign on John McMillan Road.”
While normally an in-person public meeting would be held for the public feedback, NCDOT is only doing virtual feedback because of COVID-19 precautions currently.

All comments must be submitted by May 25, 2021 to apply for the project. Construction would likely start at the end of 2022, and would involve a closure of the intersection and detour as seen in the map below.
