Director Of OG ‘Space Jam’ Slams New One
The director of the original Space Jam film is not a fan of the new one.
Space Jam director, Joe Pytka told TMZ that, “Space Jam: A New Legacy is so boring, he couldn’t finish it in one sitting.” He then added that it took him 5 separate sessions to watch the 2-hour film.
The original Space Jam starred Michael Jordan as the lead and although Pytka credits Lebron James as an extraordinary actor and athlete, the director says, “The truth is that LeBron ain’t Michael.” The Space Jam director added that the film is also missing a personal connection with James. In the 1996 film, Jordan retires from basketball which drew from the athlete’s own experience whereas there is no personal connection to James’ character in that way, Pytka says.
Pytka also shared his thoughts on the supporting cast in the new film which featured NBA players, Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard whom the director noted he “can not remember a single thing they did.” In the OG film, it featured ballplayers Charles Barkley, Muggsy Bogues, Shawn Bradley, and Bill Murray which he noted was a more “superior cast.” The new film also features some star power like Zendaya as Lola Bunny, Don Cheadle, and Michael B. Jordan.
During the director’s tirade about the film, he mentioned how the new Bugs Bunny, “looked like one of those fluffy dolls you buy at an airport gift shop to bring your kid when your business trip has taken too long.”
Pytka told TMZ his final thoughts on the film and that, “he’s not mad about A New Legacy … he just thinks it sucks.”
Pykta is also known for his work on films and commercials for celebrities such as Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, and Tiger Woods to name a few.
