Rihanna’s Fenty Company Sued For Using Offensive Song To Muslims
Rihanna is facing legal action over her fall Fenty fashion show which, according to the plaintiff, nearly got a musical artist decapitated.
Per TMZ, Rihanna’s Fenty brand is being sued by a musician who claims Fenty reached out to use one of her songs during their Savage X Fenty show last fall. However, the song that ended up being used was a version of the song that included a sample of sacred Islamic proverbs being chanted.
The artist, who filed the suit as “Jane Doe” to protect her identity, claims she received death threats after the fashion show was live-streamed. Rihanna already apologized publicly following the immediate backlash, but Jane Doe already suffered the damage. She allegedly was forced into hiding and claims the constant threat of being decapitated and murdered led to anxiety and depression. The artist also tweeted an apology for unknowingly including the sample in her song, TMZ said.
According to the lawsuit, the artist made it clear to the Fenty representatives that one version of the song had the religious verses and one didn’t — and warned them not to use the Islamic proverbs version.
The artist says she still fears for her life and remains in hiding, going after Fenty for more than $10 million in damages.
