Hawkeye: The Trailer Has An Interesting Captain America Reference
Christmas just came early for Marvel Cinematic Universe fans; Disney+ just dropped the trailer to the upcoming Hawkeye series. It will air during the holiday season, which seems deliberate as it takes place during the leadup to the holidays.
In the first scene, we see Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton sitting at a table with his kids — but weirdly, not his wife Laura, played by Linda Cardellini in the Avengers films. His daughter says, “This is the first Christmas we’ve had together in years,” probably a double entendre: Clint’s kids all disappeared after the Thanos snap, as shown at the beginning of Avengers: Endgame.
Clint responds, “I love you guys… I’m making up for some lost time.” We then see that they’re in New York, in the Broadway vicinity, and a (presumably) new production on the Great White Way is “Steve Rogers: The Musical.” We actually catch a quick glimpse of the production. Hopefully, we’ll learn a bit more about that during the show!
We then see that someone is running around as Ronin – the identity that Barton adopted after losing his family. As we saw in Endgame, Barton/Ronin put terror into the hearts of criminals, killing them mercilessly. But who is this new Ronin? Barton’s daughter asks “Should we be worried?” as he puts her and her siblings into a car. He promises that he’ll be home for Christmas. Uh-oh.
We quickly learn that it’s Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop: a major Barton fan. “Some people say that I’m the world’s greatest archer,” she tells him. “Are you one of those people?”
