Lil Nas X has been publicly expressing his frustration at his lack of nominations at this year's BET Awards.

The Grammy-winning rapper tweeted last week how he was snubbed from the award show, "thank you bet awards. an outstanding zero nominations again. black excellence!" he wrote in a series of posts that have since been deleted.

BET has now responded to Lil Nas in a statement reading, "We love Lil Nas X. He was nominated for a Best New Artist BET Award in 2020, and we proudly showcased his extraordinary talent and creativity on the show twice: he performed ‘Old Town Road’ with Billy Ray Cyrus at ‘BET Awards’ 2019 and his ‘BET Awards’ 2021 performance was a highlight of our show. No one cheered louder that night than BET."

They added, "Unfortunately, this year, he was not nominated by BET’s Voting Academy, which is comprised of an esteemed group of nearly 500 entertainment professionals in the fields of music, television, film, digital marketing, sports journalism, public relations, influencers, and creative arts. No one from BET serves as a member of the Voting Academy."

"At BET, we are passionate advocates for the wonderful diversity that exists within our community. We are committed to using all of our platforms to provide visibility and inclusion for all of the many intersections of the Black community.”

Lil Nas responded in a since-deleted tweet of the statement writing, "these are literally just buzz words placed together."

On Tuesday (June 7) the Georgia native posted a snippet of his new song on Twitter where the rapper repeatedly says in the intro "F--- BET."

Lil Nas X went to Twitter to get some things off of his chest about being snubbed from the 2022 BET Awards.

"thank you bet awards. an outstanding zero nominations again. black excellence!" he wrote in a series of posts that have since been deleted.

A fan asked the singer why he felt like he should be nominated and he responded: "idk maybe 3 of the biggest songs of last year & a critically acclaimed album… i feel like that should've helped me a bit."

Lil Nas X's album Montero was released in September of last year and was nominated for "Album Of The Year" at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards. The song which shares the same name as the album was nominated for "Record Of The Year," "Song Of The Year," and "Best Music Video." Additionally, "Industry Baby" featuring Jack Harlow was nominated for "Best Melodic Rap Performance."

The award show announced its nominees yesterday (June 1) which starts off Black Music Month and Pride Month, which added salt to the wound. When it came down to it, the Montero creator, who is openly gay, said it's not about the nominations but about being accepted.

"not even that, doesn't even have to be me nominated," he wrote. "i just feel like black gay ppl have to fight to be seen in this world and even when we make it to the top mfs try to pretend we are invisible."

However, his "Industry Baby" collaborator Jack Harlow, who is white, was nominated for "Best Male Hip Hop Artist" which Twitter picked up on.
