New Traffic Pattern Coming to Person Street in Fayetteville
Heads up drivers near Downtown Fayetteville, there will be a new traffic pattern coming to Person Street this year.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation said changes will be coming to a section of the road to help with traffic congestion.
The section of Person Street between Eastern Blvd. and Water Street (the last road before the Cape Fear River), will be changed from a four-lane road that has two lanes in each direction, to a three-lane road, with one lane in each direction, and a center turn lane. The move is designed to give drivers the ability to turn left off the busy section of road, without holding up traffic behind them.
There will also be dual turn lanes added on Person Street for anyone turning south onto Eastern Blvd.
As part of the planned changes, left-turn lanes, crosswalks, and a pedestrian signal are being added at the interchange of Person Street and Broad Street.
“By reducing the through lanes, drivers wanting to turn left along this stretch will have an improved line of sight of opposing traffic,” NCDOT said in the release.
NC DOT awarded Barnhill Contracting a $566,000 contract to complete the work. It is expected to start sometime in August, weather permitting, with no completion date yet given for the revised traffic pattern on Person Street in Fayetteville.
