Tiffany Haddish, Aries Spears Lawsuit Dismissed, Accuser Issues Statement
Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears’ child molestation lawsuit has been dismissed. The “Jane Doe” who filed the suit has now dropped the case once and for all. In new court documents obtained by gossip site TMZ, “the plaintiff asked the judge to dismiss the case with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled again.” The lawsuit filed alleged that both comedians groomed and molested two children (identified as Jane and John Doe in the case) several years ago.
“My family and I have known Tiffany Haddish for many years – and we now know that she would never harm me or my brother or help anyone else do anything that could harm us,” Jane Doe said in a statement, per the outlet. “We wish Tiffany the best and are glad that we can all put this behind us.”
Jane Doe did not mention Spears in the statement. But TMZ says the comedian is also “in the clear.” The alleged victim claimed both she and her younger brother were used by Haddish and Spears to film skits that were suggested to sexualize the minors. Prior to the dismissal of the case, both comedians issued statements. Haddish went to Instagram to post hers, “I know people have a bunch of questions. I get it. I’m right there with you. Unfortunately, because there is an ongoing legal case, there’s very little that I can say right now.”
“But,” she continued, “clearly, while this sketch was intended to be comedic, it wasn’t funny at all – and I deeply regret having agreed to act in it. I really look forward to being able to share a lot more about this situation as soon as I can.”
Spears didn't say much about the case but a day following Haddish’s statement he spoke about it briefly in a preview to his podcast “Spears & Steinberg,” Since the lawsuit was pending at the time he called the lawsuit an “extortion case” and a shakedown, saying, “We won’t be shaken down.” He then thanked his fans for their support during this time.
The dismissal of the lawsuit follows yesterday’s (Sept. 20) report that a settlement was reached in the case. RadarOnline only mentioned Haddish being a part of the settlement and did not specify if Spears was, as details behind the agreement have also been kept confidential at this time.
