Kanye West’s Episode Of ‘The Shop’ Axed Due To ‘Hate Speech’
If you are looking to see Kanye West make another television appearance, it’s safe to say that it won’t be with HBO’s The Shop:Uninterrupted. The Shop:Uninterrupted has axed Kanye’s episode due to “reiterating more hate speech.”
“Yesterday we taped an episode of The Shop with Kanye West. Kanye was booked weeks ago and, after talking to Kanye directly the day before we taped, I believed he was capable of a respectful discussion and he was ready to address all his recent comments. Unfortunately, he used The Shop to reiterate more hate speech and extremely dangerous stereotypes,” SpringHill Company CEO and host Maverick Carter said in a statement to Andscape.
“We have made the decision not to air this episode or any of Kanye’s remarks. While The Shop embraces thoughtful discourse and differing opinions, we have zero tolerance for hate speech of any kind and will never allow our channels to be used to promote hate,” Carter added.
“I take full responsibility for believing Kanye wanted a different conversation and apologize to our guests and crew. Hate speech should never have an audience,” he concluded.
Los Angeles Laker and SpringHill Company co-founder LeBron James was not present at the taping, the site states.
The pulling of Ye’s appearance follows his antisemitic remarks on social media last week. The rapper first used the hate speech in a text conversation with Diddy and later on Twitter. Both posts have since been deleted and the Yeezy founder’s social media accounts on both sites have been restricted until further notice.
Kanye’s racist remarks got the attention of the Holocaust Museum in Los Angeles, and they offered Ye a private invite to teach him how his comments have affected the Jewish community.
“Words matter and words have consequences Ye,” the museum wrote in an Instagram Story, per HipHopDX. “We urge you to come visit us at Holocaust Museum LA to understand just how words can incite horrific violence and genocides.”
Kanye has yet to respond to the museum’s invitation publicly.
