Dwyane Wade’s Ex Accuses Him Of Exploiting Trans Daughter For Profit
Dwyane Wade is petitioning for his transgender daughter Zaya Wade to have a legal name and gender change but his effort is being contested by Zaya’s mother and his ex-wife Siovaugn Funches-Wade according to court documents obtained by Page Six.
“I have concerns that [Wade] may be pressuring our child to move forward … in order to capitalize on the financial opportunities that he has received from companies,” Funches-Wade wrote in court documents per the outlet.
The former Miami Heat star clapped back at his ex-wife’s allegations in a lengthy Instagram post on Thursday (Nov. 3).
“I’m very disappointed that she continuously finds ways of centering herself and HER needs, without regard to her children,” he wrote. “I’ve given her the opportunity to reach out to Zaya’s teachers, doctors and therapist over the years and even meet her friends, so she could get her own understanding of our child’s needs for her LIFE!” he continued.
He claims that Funches-Wade claims to be a “good Christian mother.” But, he says, she is actually an “absent parent.” He states that she has never attended a “recital, graduation, school dance, play date, practice, parent-teacher conference etc.”
The baller also defended his current wife, actress Gabrielle Union, noting that they would never “force Zaya or any of [their] children to do anything against their will, much less force an identity on them.”
He added that Zaya has achieved a “4.0 GPA in honors classes” and “while navigating all this unsolicited and harmful attention and debates about her gender and sexuality from those who are committed to not listening to her, much less even knowing her!”
“The high road has run out of real estate,” he concluded. “My lawyer will be in contact.”
Dwyane shares a 20-year-old son Zaire with Funches-Wade, a 19-year-old son Xavier Aja Metoyer, and a three-year-old daughter Kaavia with Gabrielle Union.
