Pop Smoke: Woman Who Witnessed His Murder Speaks Out

A woman who witnessed the murder of Pop Smoke has spoken out for the first time. On the premiere episode of WeTV’s HipHop Homicides, Amelia Rose, the woman who claimed to be in the late rapper’s bedroom moments before he was fatally shot on Feb. 19, 2020 detailed the horrific tragedy.

“Pop said he was going upstairs,” Amelia Rose told Van Lathan. “I’m sitting on the bed and I’m starting to take off my clothes, and he said, ‘OK, I’ll come back.’ He was going to the restroom and so this was his last words.”

“This moment, it was like a couple seconds and I hear the noise.” She described hearing a sliding glass door open. “The guy was in the mask and his gun was like looking at me, you know? His eyes made me so scared. They run to the restroom, Pop screamed, ‘What?'”

Later in the interview she tearfully recalled Pop Smoke being dragged from the bedroom by a masked man. After moments of commotion, she heard the gunshot that ultimately led to his death. Rose explained that she still has trouble sleeping at night and is shocked she wasn’t killed as well.

Pop Smoke, born Bashar Jackson, was shot and killed during a home invasion in Hollywood, Calif. on Feb. 19, 2020. Five people have been arrested and charged in connection to Pop’s death. Two of the five people arrested and charged for the late rapper’s murder are minors so their names have not been released to the public. The three other individuals per XXL, are 19-year-old Corry Walker and 22-year-old Keandre Rodgers, who potentially face the death penalty if they are convicted of murder and robbery charges. The fifth suspect, 22-year-old Jaquan Murphy, is currently facing a charge of attempted murder.

  “City of Gods” features Fivio Foreign, Kanye West, and Alicia Keys. The song is the lead single on Fivi's debut album B.I.B.L.E which Ye executive produced and is featured on Donda 2.   “What Happened To Virgil” is featured on Lil Durk’s 7220 which features DS4Ever rapper Gunna. The track pays homage to the late designer, Virgil Abloh. Abloh died on November 28, 2021 at 41 after a two-year battle with cardiac angiosarcoma, a rare form of cancer.
