Cardi B Reveals What Is Delaying Her Album
It’s been five years since Cardi B has released a studio album. Her Grammy-winning debut LP Invasion of Privacy catapulted her career, but her sophomore album has yet to materialize. However, Cardi has not left her fans high and dry. The rapper dropped “WAP” featuring Megan Thee Stallion in 2020, which went viral on social media and grabbed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, where it stayed for four weeks. The following year Cardi released her solo single “UP” and earlier this summer, she dropped “Hot S—” featuring Lil Durk and Kanye West.
In a recent Instagram Live on Tuesday night (Dec. 6), Cardi explains why there is a delay for her sophomore album. “I’m just a mom and I do have anxiety,” she said. “I’ve been having a lot of anxiety, because I know right after I drop my album, I have to go out on tour and I have bad separation anxiety from my kids.”
The rapper also mentioned that because Invasion of Privacy did so well, there is a lot of pressure to measure up to that success once again.
“When it comes to music and everything, I just be feeling like I don’t be liking anything,” she said. “I feel like I got so many songs and I don’t like anything. I feel like nothing is good enough… And I got so much money saved up I just be like, ‘Yeah, whatever the f—.'”
She added that the pressure from everyone commenting on what she does also plays a role although she has decided to block it out and keep going.
“I used to love making music, but now, making music to me has become like a job that gives me anxiety,” Cardi B says in the video. “Everybody just critiques everything that I do, that it’s just like…you know, sometimes you just don’t want to do something that may give you that much anxiety. So I just be like, “Uh!” — freezing myself but I have to let that go. I have to release more music — I have to go out there.”
Cardi has yet to announce an official release date for a full-length project.
