Tory Lanez ‘Will Not Testify’ In Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Trial

Tory Lanez will not testify for his felony assault trial for the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. Rolling Stone reports that the rapper, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, told Judge David Herriford Wednesday that he will not take the stand.

“I will not testify,” Lanez said before closing statements began Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 21).

Additionally, Tory’s driver, Jaquan Smith, who was present during the incident, will also not testify since it could delay proceedings.

“Jaquan Smith, Tory’s driver, was present and on defense witness list but prosecutors asked for a continuance past the Christmas break if he was to testify, per defense attorney George Mgdesyan,” LA Times reporter James Queally’s tweet read. “At his clients request not to delay proceedings, Mgdesyan declined to call him.”

Lanez not taking the stand follows that the rapper’s discography is being used as potential evidence, per Law and Crime reporter Meghann Cuniff

One big issue remains: Will Tory Lanez testify?

If he does, Judge Herriford says any lyrics or videos that relate to this case are fair game, which DA Alexander Bott says include Lanez's music video in which he's "butchering horse feet, clearly directed at Megan."

— Meghann Cuniff (@meghanncuniff) December 20, 2022" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tweeted. District Attorney Alexander Bott named the singer/rapper’s video “CAP” as potential evidence. In the video, he is seen “butchering horse feet, clearly directed at Megan.”

A doctor testified that Megan was struck by multiple bullet fragments during the roadside assault on July 12, 2020, per RS.

Tory Lanez faces three charges related to the alleged shooting: felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possession of a concealed, unregistered firearm and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. He’s pleaded not guilty to all three.

If convicted, he faces a maximum of 22 years and eight months in prison, as well as deportation to Canada.
