Kanye Deactivates His Instagram Account

Kanye West is stepping away from Instagram. On Tuesday (April 18), Ye uploaded a photo of him filling out the deactivating application on the platform. The Donda creator did not give an explanation as to why he chose to deactivate his account at this time. At the time of publication, Ye’s Instagram is officially off the platform.

Ye and Instagram have had a tumulous relationship over the past year dating back to when Kanye first got his account suspended on the platform for hate speech. He also attacked celebrities such as D.L. Hughley, Pete Davidson, and Trevor Noah.

Last year, TMZ reported, “A spokesperson for Meta tells us Kanye’s recent posts violated Instagram’s policies on hate speech, harassment and bullying. As a result, we’re told his account has been suspended for 24 hours — where he won’t be able to post, comment, send DM’s, among other things. The spokesperson tells us they’ll take additional steps if further violations happen.”

Hughley and Kanye went back and forth last year.  The comedian took to Twitter to talk about the rapper taking medication and Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson’s relationship.

“DL Hughley is a pawn,” Ye wrote at the time. “Yeah I know a king not supposed to address a pawn but I address everything and find addresses DL So don’t speak on me or my children I can afford to hurt u.”

However, ultimately this time, the decision seemingly looks like a personal choice for the rapper. He’s kept a low profile in the last several months.
