Sommore Continues to Bring ‘Gift of Laughter’ to Raleigh, With Royal Comedy Tour May 12
The undisputed “Queen of Comedy,” Sommore is coming to Raleigh for the Royal Comedy Tour this weekend, and to get ready for the show, I got a chance to talk with her about life and comedy.
Before we get into the interview, tickets are still available for this incredible comedy show on May 12, with Special K, Bruce Bruce, Lavell Crawford, and of course Miss Sommore. BUY TICKETS HERE!
But back to our conversation with Sommore. The group has been going non-stop, with the Royal Comedy Tour bringing the laughs all year long.
“We kicked this tour off in January – we have worked every single weekend since January – and finally we’re making it to Raleigh,” Sommore said. “With an All-Star line up! We’re happy that people are still buying what we’re selling because laughter will never go out of style.”
Sommore is a veteran comedic entertainer, having hosted BET’s “Comic View” back in the 1994-95 season – the first woman to hold that honor. She was also the 1995 Richard Pryor Comic of the Year. But she hasn’t always been doing this. She was actually a TEACHER before getting into comedy.
“I used to teach 11th grade algebra,” she said. “I have a degree in business administration and a minor in mathematics.”
But her natural humor led to a career in comedy, with a no-nonsense style that’s still filled with style and grace.
“One of my mentors – and one of the people I admired – was Joan Rivers,” she said. “She was the same way. It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. And I believe with the gift of laughter, you can tell anybody anything.”
