North Carolina Swimming Hole Named One Of The Best In The U.S.
Fall in the southeast is one of the best times to explore the outdoors. In fact, in some areas, you can even swim well into October or November. Travel and Leisure recently published the best swimming holes in America, and a North Carolina location was named as one of the best.
“America’s natural swimming holes range from magnificent waterfalls that form your very own natural waterslide to creeks that provide crystal-clear waters and even geothermal pools that you can dip into when you’re looking for some warmth,” they state.
A swimming hole, by definition, is an area within a river, stream, creek, spring, or similar natural body of water, that is large enough (and mostly deep enough) for people to swim. They are often in picturesque locations. Due to their natural formations, many swimming holes offer fresh water (that can be cold) for you to enjoy.
In addition, you can often hike a path to find these swimming holes. There are few things more refreshing than building up a sweat and then coming across a glistening spot to swim. The North Carolina area recognized as one of the best swimming holes is an excellent example of a spot with all of all these qualities.

“The 60-foot mountain waterslide takes you down into a pool at the bottom, with close to 11,000 gallons of water flowing per minute,” Travel and Leisure explains.
The swimming hole is approximately eight feet deep. The water is usually in the range of 50-60 degrees. The observation deck allows you to watch the experience as well. Lifeguards are on duty between Memorial Day and Labor Day, which is the most popular time to visit this tourist attraction (10 am-6 pm). You can swim here year-round, however. Though there is typically a $4 fee to enter the area, you are instantly greeted by nature’s finest elements.
