Carlton vs. Madea: Alfonso Ribeiro Nixes Any Notion of Help From Tyler Perry
I guess it’s safe to say we will never see Madea heading to Bel Air anytime soon. In a recent interview with Closer Weekly, Alfonso Ribeiro discussed the sacrifices his acting career took after playing the iconic role of Carlton Banks on The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air:
“Playing Carlton on Fresh Prince became a sacrifice. I used to always say doing Carlton was the greatest and worst thing that ever happened to me. It was one of the greatest roles that I ever was fortunate enough to play, but it was also the role that stopped me from acting again because people couldn’t see me as anything else. The sacrifice was not having an acting career anymore.”
Since the interview, the internet has weighed in on this with different takes even offering solutions like to work with Tyler Perry.
Nice in theory but Ribeiro who currently co-hosts Dancing With The Stars with Julianne Hough and hosts America’s Funniest Home Videos doesn’t really need work.
You smell that? Smells like beef to me. Now Tyler Perry’s work isn’t the most high brow comedies but it has gone gross over a billion dollars in movies alone and that’s not counting the live theater shows and tv shows. Ribeiro should know this because he did directed 8 episodes of Meet the Browns . So what could the issues be? First we had Kat Williams calling out comedy, the epic battle between Kendrick & Drake and now we have Carlton Banks vs. Madea. I would say Carlton should call Will but I know he is trying to lay low after his beef with Chris Rock. 2024 seems to be the year where all issues are coming to the forefront so let’s stay plugged into this developing situation. I’ll practice doing the Carlton dance so I can stay on his good side.
