If you’re someone who loves getting into the holiday spirit, then note that one North Carolina and one South Carolina city have been named the best in the country to travel to during the holidays because it goes “all out” for Christmas. There’s nothing wrong with loving the holidays and living them up as much as possible. In that spirit, let’s check out this festival town that is “all in” for the holidays each year.
These North Carolina, South Carolina Cities Love Christmas
A big part of going “all out” for the holidays is decorating with as many lovely Christmas lights as possible. According to Christmas-Light-Source.com, the tradition of illumination during the holidays goes way back. “The tradition of Christmas lights began modestly, with candles serving as the primary source of illumination” they note, adding that, “the original purpose of these candles was to bring illumination to the ornaments adorning the tree.” Also, “This tradition can be traced back to Germany in the 17th century, and over the next two centuries, it became a widespread practice in Germany and eventually spread to other countries in Eastern Europe.” So, the tradition of Christmas lights goes back centuries, even before today’s modern lights were around.
The travel experts at Conde Nest Traveler have put together a roster of 23 cities that “go all out for Christmas.” In the feature, Conde Nest Traveler notes, “Think of the phrase ‘Christmas in America,’ and you’ll likely imagine the usual suspects: giant trees festooned in twinkling lights, people of all ages caroling and singing ‘Silent Night,’ ubiquitous tributes to the jolly man in red named Santa Claus, and gingerbread.” But, they say that it you “take a closer look and you may be surprised: Christmas celebrations across the United States can look very different, depending on the environment, local history, and present-day cultures of the people who live there.” That’s why they say even towns that don’t get any snow can be very festive around the holidays.
As for the North Carolina and South Carolina cities that are considered perfect for the holidays, Conde Nest Traveler names Ashville, North Carolina, a top spot, stating, “Asheville is easily one of the country’s best places to spend Christmas, offering all the light displays and holiday shopping—not to mention the perfect tucked-away location in the Blue Ridge Mountains—any vacationer could wish for.” They also love Charleston, South Carolina, writing, “Charleston is the perfect destination for any fan of the holidays.” Reach out to me with your favorite holiday town.
