You know that feeling when you open your front camera by accident? Now imagine opening it and seeing Denzel Washington on the screen. For Big Sean’s mom, that was enough to make her disappear faster than you can say “Oscar winner.”
The Detroit rapper recently shared a hilarious Instagram video showing what happened when he surprised his mother, Myra Anderson, with a FaceTime call from Denzel Washington.
A Hollywood Throwback
The moment was more than just funny. It was actually a full-circle reunion. Sean revealed that Washington used to know his mom back when she was acting in her 20s.
“Y’all my mom n Denzel Washington used to run scenes together back in the day,” he wrote in the caption for a carousel post that included pictures of him with Washington, and a brief video showing Washington chatting to the rapper’s mom. “I had to throw them on phone… Life beautiful beautiful when it comes full circle.”
The post featured smiling photos of Sean with the legendary actor, along with a short clip of Washington greeting Anderson on FaceTime. That is when things got funny.
Camera? Absolutely Not
Instead of happily appearing on screen, Anderson immediately tried to hide her face from the 71-year-old actor.
“Mom, you not gonna put yourself on camera?” asked Sean with a laugh.
Washington could not help but joke about it too.
“She ain’t putting herself on camera, oh she’s gonna be mad at you later,” Washington added. “You’ll get him later, don’t worry about it.”
Even though she would not show her face, Anderson did talk about their past. She reflected on the scenes they ran together and shared that Washington used to come over to her apartment “a lot” back then.
Washington playfully encouraged her to come out from hiding.
“Get out of her, you got to show me your face!” Washington responded.
She continued describing one of the scenes they worked on after he asked for more details, all while keeping her face completely off-screen.
Sean later explained in the comments just how quickly his mom reacted.
“My Momma really hid her face soon as she seen Denzel face on FaceTime… like it took less than a tenth of a second to realize it was Denzel.”
A Mother’s Sacrifice
The moment also reminded fans of the sacrifices Anderson made. Before focusing on Sean’s music career, she had dreams of acting herself.
Last year, in an interview with E! News, Sean reflected on how much that support meant to him.
“She knew what it was like to have a dream and chase it,” he said. “She knew what it was like to pursue something and see it come to fruition, even if it was just for a little bit. … She made her dream come true to a certain extent. She was making a lot of money from doing commercials. She was living in Manhattan and had a nice apartment with my dad.”
What started as a simple call turned into a funny and touching reminder that life can surprise you. Even if you are not ready for the camera.
