Fayetteville will host the 2028 NJCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship at Gates Four Golf & Country Club from May 8-11, 2028. The tournament should bring 15 teams with 90 to 120 players to town.
The championship will produce about 350 room nights and more than $144,000 in total business sales. Local taxes from the event sit at an estimated $5,200. Parents, fans, and supporters will travel to Fayetteville for up to a week.
"We are excited to move the tournament toward the East Coast, and Fayetteville, N.C., is a beautiful location," said Jim Gerwitz, the NJCAA's DI women's golf chair, per Sports Travel Magazine. "The facility and the course are top-notch, our student-athletes will definitely have a wonderful championship experience."
Gates Four features an 18-hole championship golf course. Bent-grass greens cover the putting surfaces. Renovated bunkers dot the property. Tall pine trees line the fairways. Willard Byrd built the course in 1967, and Kris Spence completed a renovation in 2011.
"Gates Four Golf and Country Club feel privileged to host such a prestigious event and assisting with showcasing Gates Four, along with what the Fayetteville region has to offer," said Kevin Lavertu, general manager of Gates Four Golf & Country Club. "We feel the course will be a great test to determine a champion."
Lavertu said the layout will require players to use all clubs in their bags. The club looks forward to welcoming players, coaches, parents, and spectators.
Cox said the destination fits championship events well. The bureau will showcase the hospitality and amenities available to teams and guests during their stay.
