On August 6, 1945, during World War II, the U.S. B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb code-named “Little Boy” on Hiroshima, Japan. An estimated140,000 deaths resulted. (Three days later, the United States exploded another nuclear device over Nagasaki. Imperial Japan surrendered five days after that – on August 15th.)
In 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act.
Today on Talkback, we honor two contributions to the “Can do” spirit of our area and community – one by an area church, Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist – and one by our relatively new County Manager, Clarence Grier. This is our first chat with Grier, whose first notoriety in our area came as a talented college basketball player at Campbell University from 1985 to 1987. You’ll hear more about his background as a CPA, his country management experience in North Carolina and Virginia and his observations and vision around his new position in our upcoming conversation.
