On Talkback today, a reminder of three upcoming events of note around the Fayetteville area. First, this Wednesday, October 18th at 8am in the Crown Ballroom on the second level of the Crown Complex between the Coliseum Arena and Crown Expo Center, the Greater Fayetteville Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee invites you to a Fayetteville Municipal Election Candidates Forum. It’s designed as a public event where candidatesrunning for office are invited to express their positions toward various topics. The Chamber hosts this event for free intending to inform our citizens and foster an engaged business community. Fayetteville is invited to a talk from a guest from Fiji this coming Friday, 9am at the Northwood Temple – 4250 North Ramsey Street. Zac is his name. He was 9 years old when a shoebox gift package from a donor just like you to Franklin Graham’s Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child made it’s way to Zac in Fiji….and profoundly changed his life. He’s here Friday. We’ll hear from Nicole Nelson, Fayetteville area Coordinator for Operation Christmas Child who will explain how you can help in this coming year’s Fayetteville Operation Christmas Child collection, which turned over nearly 32,000 gifts to Samaritan’s Purse last year! She’ll be along in just a few minutes.
But we’ll start on today’s Talkback with an invitation to support the 2023 Walk to End Alzheimer’s, a dementia disease affecting more and more citizens and families every year – as America’s, North Carolina’s and the Fayetteville Area’s population ages every year. In North Carolina alone there are more than 180,000 sufferers – expected to exceed 225,000 in just the next few years. Because as time goes on the likelihood Alzheimer’s or other dementia related illness could affect someone we know, it’s an affliction we should all know about. The Fayetteville Walk to End Alzheimer’s Coordinator is the energetic former Miss North Carolina, Victoria Huggins.
