Hip-hop is feeling the Halloween spirit. As Halloween (Oct. 31) falls on a Tuesday this year, many stars used the weekend as an opportune time to display their costumes. A common thread amongst hip-hop, R&B, and musical artists from every genre this year was paying homage. Some musical artists dressed as other artists in their format, while others dusted off some VHS tapes for inspiration.

On the list this year are a variety of people who went all out for their costumes including singles and couples. Many celebrities love Halloween, so to them, it is their Super Bowl. Megan Thee Stallion is definitely one of the musicians that go into that category. The Houston native faithfully posts herself in a large carved pumpkin head each year.

Every October 1, the Traumazine rapper has posted a photo of herself in various poses as she wears a large pumpkin head. This year, some of her poses included her drinking a cappuccino in her yard, with her hands over her face in a stressed-out position, and another with the same coffee as she stands by the pool

Hip-Hop Stars Past Halloween Costumes That Ate

Many stars use the fact that they look like other celebrities to really lock in the look. One look in particular that comes to mind is Latto’s Faith Evans look. Social media has continuously told the rapper that she favors the “I’ll Be Missing You” singer. Last year, Latto posed as the icon as she recreated Evans’ and Biggie’s cover of Vibe magazine. She changed her hair into Evans’ infamous updo and wore a similar black leather outfit as she posed in the back of a car. The rapper also posted the original for fans to compare how well she did.

While Lori Harvey doesn’t favor Beyoncé, the looks she created last year still, to this day, make you do a double-take. Harvey recreated Beyoncé’s look from “Kitty Kat,” and “Check On It,” and two parts of her “Me, Myself, and I,” video.

Take a look below at some of the best Halloween costumes from R&B and hip-hop artists for this year below:

  • Ice Spice

Ice Spice was the classic Betty Boop for Halloween this year. The Bronx native wore a strapless red dress and heart-shaped garter. She even switched up her orange curly fro for a jet black look to fully get into character.

  • Megan Thee Stallion

The cosplay queen strikes again! Megan Thee Stallion served during her “Hottieween” as a flower from Alice in Wonderland. The rapper wore a green bodysuit adorned with vines and leaves. What really stole the show was her large flower headpiece.

  • Chlöe Bailey

Chlöe Bailey got Halloween started early as she appeared as Khaleesi, the Mother of Dragons from Game of Thrones. The R&B star switched up her luscious locs for a platinum blonde wig. The “Surprise” crooner wore an armor-inspired piece that completed the whole look. She also posed in a dungeon-like room to give the medieval look a full effect. However, this was just costume number one. The singer was also dressed as Catwoman over the weekend. Take a look at that costume here.

  • Halle Bailey and DDG

The couple costume winner this year is definitely Halle and DDG. After years of Halle being told by the internet she favors Janet Jackson, she finally leaned into the costume. Bailey and her boyfriend DDG, dressed up as Jackson and Tupac Shakur from the 1993 film Poetic Justice. DDG even fully committed to the role and wore Shakur’s infamous nose ring. The “Heaven” singer also changed her locs for Jackson’s signature braids and hat from the film.

  • Lizzo

The late Tina Turner is still on a lot of our minds after her death back in May. The singer was 83. Lizzo, who honored that late legend during her tour earlier this year after the news of her death, played homage to the singer once again during Halloween. Lizzo rocked a short wig and dress with fringe galore to bring out her inner Tina. The “Special” singer had simply the best costume choice this year.

  • North West

While North West is not a chart-topping rapper like her father (yet), the 11-year-old seemed to have a blast posing as Kanye’s Dropout Bear. The Dropout Bear is an anthropomorphic symbol that the rapper used predominantly for the College Dropout trilogy. North wore the complete costume from head to toe, and let’s face it, no one is pulling it off the way she can.

  • Saweetie

Saweetie opted for both a nostalgic look and a scary one. The Bay Area rapper chose to be Edward Scissorhands from the 1990 film of the same name starring Johnny Depp. The “Best Friend” emcee wore a short black wig, white face paint, and a dozen silver chains, and buckles. On her fingers of course was a glove that had a multitude of scissors. If you need a haircut, you know who to call.

  • Keke Palmer

Keke Palmer was real real-life Barbie doll for one of her Halloween costumes this year. The actress dressed up as Tyra Banks from film Life Size which also stars Lindsey Lohan. The Big Boss creator also did a Halloween shoot with her son, where she dressed up as the bride of Frankenstein. You can see that post here.
