These 5 States Have The Most Serial Killers. Okay, don’t freak out. But since Halloween is right around the corner, we wanted to take a look at something that many find super scary. Although some people are obsessed with serial killers to a point. Regardless, if you live in these 5 states, you may want to move.

It’s no secret that we have become fascinated with serial killers. An article written last year by Sophie Yarin of Boston University says that “true crime is the most popular American podcasting genre, and Reddit’s r/serialkillers page has more than half a million members.” Whatever our reasons are for finding so much interest in this rather morbid topic, it is a real thing. So, let’s take a look at the five states that have produced the most serial killers. This is according to the site tasteofcountry.com.

  • Pennsylvania

    There have been 5 serial killers in Pennsylvania. The scariest of the five: the most notorious being the “House of Horrors” killer Gary Heidnik.

    Gary Heidnik

    Gary Michael Heidnik was an ephebophilic killer, serial rapist, abductor, and projected cannibal who abducted, tortured, and raped six African-American women, keeping them captive in his basement in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Born on November 22, 1943, in Eastlake, Ohio, Heidnik's parents divorced due to his mother's alcoholism.

  • Indiana

    Indiana has six known serial killers including Herb Baumeister.

  • Ohio

    Ohio and Illinois are tied with 7. Jeffrey Dahmer, need we say more.

  • Illinois

    7 serial killers are also from Illinois. Illinois is home of John Wayne Gacy.

  • New York

    Holy 18 serial killers are from NY. That’s a lot! “Son of Sam” is probably the most notorious.
