Jay-Z Performs “Numb/Encore” In Live Lounge For Chester Bennington
Mental health is an important topic, and it’s very important that artists speak out on this topic.
Today’s emotional but powerful moment has been brought to you by Jay-Z, who performed “Numb/Encore” in honor of Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, who committed suicide on July 20.
They used the track of vocals of Chester Bennington singing the pieces of Linkin Park’s “Numb” for the performance, including his entire verse, while Jay stood in the center, hat down, adding “uh” and “yeah” occasionally, letting it feel as if Chester was on stage with him.
BBC’s Clara Amfo spoke with Jay Z after the performance, and Hip Hop DX quotes HOV saying the following:
“Hopefully his death serves as a wake-up call… Mental health is a real thing. You never know what people are going through. Money or fame doesn’t mean anything if you’re not happy inside.”
“A lot of people, we go on and we don’t deal with what’s happening to us… Especially if you’re a performer like that. You just start numbing yourself. You just become numb. He’s singing it. You just go and get bigger audiences and things like that and you move further away from yourself.”
With how hard the subject is, and how many more artists are speaking out, we’re hoping that people will take these thoughts and words into consideration, seek professional help, or speak out, even when it could be the hardest thing you could ever do. And let it be known, there is no shame in getting help. Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
