In a tweet, the organization wrote, "We, the NFL, condemn racism and the systematic oppression of Black People. We, the NFL, admit we were wrong for not listening to NFL players earlier and encourage all to speak out and peacefully protest. We, the NFL, believe Black Lives Matter. #InspireChange"
Along with the tweet is a video with the Commissioner of the National Football League, Roger Goodell. In the clip, Goodell starts by saying, "It has been a difficult time for our country. In particular, black people in our country." He then gives his condolences to the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Aubrey, and all the families who have endured police brutality. Afterward, he explained that he is personally protesting and wants to be part of the change.
In his message, Goodell points out that without black players, there would be no National Football League. He also reveals he would be reaching out to players who have raised their voices to decide how to improve and go forward to be a united NFL family.
