Johnny Depp Stars In Film About Who Shot Biggie Smalls, ‘City Of Lies’
Johnny Depp and Forrest Whittaker star in a new crime drama movie coming out next week, based around the mystery of who killed The Notorious B.I.G.
Depp plays retired detective Russell Poole investigating the murders of The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur. He has spent years trying to solve his biggest case, but after two decades, the investigation remains open.
Whittaker portrays Jack Jackson, a reporter desperate to save his reputation and career is determined to find out why the investigation hadn’t been closed. In search of the truth, the pair team up and unravel a growing web of institutional corruption and lies.
The upcoming film has been swarmed with controversy: even though the first trailer was released in May 2018, it was delayed due to a lawsuit involving Depp and the movie’s location manager, ScreenRant reports. Another reason for the delay might be the result of suppression by the Los Angeles Police Department, who are implicated over the course of City of Lies.
Saban Films recently acquired the film’s distribution rights, so the new trailer has been updated. Viewers are offered hints of the complicated homicide investigation and how racism factors into the story.
The film is based on the novel Labyrinth by Randall Sullivan.
City of Lies will be in theaters starting on March 19th, before arriving On Demand and digital April 9th.
