Lil Baby Honored With His Own Day In Atlanta

Lil Baby has been awarded with his own day in his home city of Atlanta, Georgia.  Sunday (November 13) is officially being recognized as Dominique "Lil Baby" Jones Day going forward.

"November 13th Is Officially Dominique ‘Lil Baby’ Jones Day In Atlanta !! Thank You," the rapper wrote on Instagram while sharing several photos from the ceremony.

The rapper was born and raised in Atlanta’s Oakland City neighborhood. He was recognized for his philanthropic efforts and immensely successful hip-hop career. In 2020, the rapper pledged to donate the $1.5 million of what he earned from his Grammy-nominated song "The Bigger Picture." That's the song that he performed at the 2021 Grammys. It was released in June 2020 in the wake of George Floyd's death.

"I got 1.5 million dollars to donate off of 'Bigger Picture,' the rapper tweeted at the time. "I want the money to go we’re [sic] it’s needed."

In March 2020, the hitmaker returned to his alma mater Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta, Georgia where he donated $150,000 to the My Turn Scholarship fund.

It's just one of the many accolades the rapper has received in the past year. The "My Turn" emcee accepted the Quincy Jones Humanitarian award at the Black Music Gala back in September.

"To even be acknowledged in music, let alone by a role model like Quincy Jones and the Black Music Action Coalition," Lil Baby said in his acceptance speech per HipHopDX. "I honestly didn’t know what a humanitarian award was, but as I looked into it and I started reading, I understand I’m actually a humanitarian."

"Not only have you made music history and impacted the course of modern Hip Hop, but you use your platform to give back to the community in a meaningful way. And that’s what it’s all about," Jones stated in a letter that was read by his son Quincy Jones III at the award show.

Lil Baby rose to mainstream fame after the release of his mixtape Perfect Timing. Since then, he has continuously proved himself to be a hitmaker teaming up with big names in the game such as Drake, Kanye and frequently collabing with fellow rapper Lil Durk. With 11 platinum hits, the ATL native proves to be someone who will be sticking around for a long time.

"Freestyle" is one of Lil Baby's first music videos that shows the rapper beginning his career. The video shows footage of the rapper in the studio, club, and his hometown.

This video is slightly different from his other music videos as the beginning throws up a title card with "Hey so this is a Lil Baby music video" followed by another saying "Actually its just moments from a random trip." The video gives fans an insight to how the millionaire rapper likes to vacation with just a few scenes of scripted clips.

"Woah" from his 2020 album My Turn has Lil Baby doing donuts in the parking lot along with adorable kids showing off their dancing skills.

In "Okay," Lil Baby and Lil Durk are seen in multiple locations, a private jet runway, jewelry store and parking lot with fast cuts to their cash and cars.

"Voice Of The Heroes" shares the title of their 2021 joint album The Voice of the Heroes and was shot in Lil Baby's hometown of Oakland City, Atlanta.

"Every Chance I Get" is off of DJ Khaled's KHALED KHALED featuring Lil Baby and Lil Durk. In the video, they rap lyrics pertaining to their luxury jewelry.

The music video for"Emotionally Scarred" has Lil Baby showing subliminal messages with a literal goat featured in the video that he makes reference to in his lyrics, "I never call myself a G.O.A.T., I leave that love to the people." He also has the message "Stay At Home" in the background referring to the pandemic.

From their joint album The Voice of the Heroes Lil Baby and Lil Durk find themselves participating in an auction at a mansion to go undercover to take an expensive piece of jewerly.

"The Bigger Picture" is a response to the murder of George Floyd which Lil Baby shows solidarity with the Black Lives Matter Movement. The black and white video shows footage of several protests that occurred in the summer of 2020 while the lyrics support justice against police brutality.
