Cooling Stations in Cumberland County Available Through July 14
With the summertime heat showing no signs of letting up this summer in Fayetteville and Cumberland County, the city and county government have made cooling stations in Cumberland County available for residents to cool down this week. Some of these locations will even remain open through the weekend.
Heat Forecast For North Carolina
Let me be the first person on the internet to ever say this: it’s HOT. Consistently sweltering heat has made this summer season in North Carolina tough to fully enjoy.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem like changing any time soon. The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a heat advisory for all of central North Carolina until 8 PM tonight, and forecasts indicate it won’t be the last for this week.
The extreme temperatures have also gave way to a hazardous weather outlook until Sunday, July 14. Heat index values during this timeframe are expected to range anywhere from the upper 90s to 106 degrees. Yikes, I got sweaty just typing that.
Cooling Stations In Cumberland County
In response to the outrageously hot conditions, government officials will open cooling stations in Cumberland County for residents who don’t have reliable access to air conditioning. If you’re looking to beat the heat this week, you’re encouraged to visit any of these locations:
- Cumberland County Department of Social Services (1225 Ramsey St.) – available Monday – Friday from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM
- Cumberland County Department of Public Health (1235 Ramsey St.) – first floor lobby available Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Cumberland County Public Library – all eight library locations are available as cooling stations during normal business hours. Click here to see your local library’s hours of operation.

Additional Heat Safety Tips
While these cooling stations are a valuable resource during this scorching heatwave, the Cumberland County government is also urging its residents to practice extra caution until the heat dies down.
This recent news release on the county’s website details various ways that you can stay safe this summer. These tips include drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned rooms for as long as possible, avoid excessive sun exposure, avoid strenuous work, check on relatives and neighbors, and NEVER leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.
