Sean Kingston Agrees To Return To Florida To Face Fraud Charges
Singer Sean Kingston agrees to return peacefully to his home state of Florida to face fraud charges. Per NBC News, the “Beautiful Girls” singer waived his right to fight extradition in a California court on Tuesday (May 28) and agreed to be turned over to authorities in the Sunshine State.
Family Fraud Charges
He and his mother, Janice Turner, are charged with committing more than a million dollars worth of fraud. Kingston, 34, signed papers agreeing to skip extradition hearings, representatives from the San Bernardino court said.
The singer was arrested in California last Thursday and has been in jail there ever since. He was arrested in Fort Irwin, at an Army training base in California’s Mojave Desert where he was performing. Law enforcement waited until he finished performing to make the arrest.
Earlier that same day, a SWAT team raided his rented mansion in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and arrested Turner. Officers were seen after the raid loading a van with goods, including several high-end vehicles parked outside the property.
Gossip website TMZ obtained photos from inside the mansion showing a giant LED TV being taken apart panel by panel. An electronics company is suing him for allegedly not paying for a $150,000 entertainment system.
Kingston and Turner have been charged with conducting an organized scheme to defraud, grand theft, identity theft, and related crimes, according to arrest warrants released by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. The warrants allege they stole money, jewelry, a Cadillac Escalade, and furniture.
He and his mother have both faced legal troubles in the past. In 2006, Turner pleaded guilty to bank fraud for stealing more than $160,000 and served nearly 18 months in prison. She is currently being held at Broward County’s Main Jail in lieu of a $160,000 bond.
Janice, 61, took to Instagram Tuesday with a photo of her son reflecting on when he survived a near-fatal jet-ski accident back in 2011. Sean’s jet-ski slammed into a bridge, catapulting him and his passenger into the water, when he was knocked unconscious. Kingston was taken to the hospital in critical condition. After 11 days, doctors found he had a torn aorta, and had to have emergency open-heart surgery.
Turner wrote in her IG caption: “Happy Anniversary to MY SON! Today marks 13 years since @SeanKingston Jet-Ski accident and a second chance at life. The accident was a stark reminder of how fragile life is…”
She adds, “As we move forward, I am more thankful than ever for each moment we have together. I LOVE YOU SON!!! Here’s to LIFE!!! #GODISGREAT One Team, One Dream.”
Commenting on the post, folks called out the mother-son duo on their fraud charges. One person wrote: “A second chance at life to commit fraud and grand theft [red heart emojis, prayer hands emoji].” Another said, “Who’s posting on your page? I thought you’re in jail [pondering emoji].” A third said, “10 more charges bless up.”
