What music inspires you most on rainy days?

When the rain is pouring down we need some rainy day throwback jams on our playlist.

We thought spring would be fully in session but we seemed to have been duped. It’s still very much April Showers. I’m not complaining though because I like rainy days. I’m allergic to all grass and weeds and especially with how bad the pollen gets, I’d rather get rained on then be covered in a fog of yellow dust. And after the record-setting heat we received last year I am more than accepting of cooler weather until we can’t have it anymore. So what songs should be on a rainy day playlist? What songs give you that exact feeling of when it rains? I don’t know about you but the word Rain has to be in the title. You can’t be just playing “Turn Down For What” and think about a cold rainy day.

More often times when it’s rainy and the clouds are out you are feeling a certain type of way. Sometimes sad, reflective or accepting. You could also be a Pluviophile [ ploo-vee-uh-fahyl ]: defined as a person who enjoys rain and rainy days, and who is fascinated by the sights, sounds, etc., of rain. It can be very relaxing to just stop and take a minute. We are always so on the go that a quiet rainy day inside can truly make you happier.

This list is comprised of the songs that give you all the emotions that the rain can represent. Again if you have rain in the title you already have a leg up but they have to truly express those rainy days good, sad and reflective feelings to make this week’s list. As always these are my official opinions but I’m open to what other songs are missing from his playlist.

  • Missy Elliott - The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)

Look like it’s ’bout to rain, what a shame
I got the Armor-All to shine up the stain
    Oh, Missy, try to maintain
    Ficky-ficky-ficky-ficky-ficky-ficky-ficky
    I can’t stand the rain

Missy and crew were otw to an awesome beach trip and then drove into a pour down. THE WORST!

  • Eurythmics - Here Comes The Rain Again

    Here comes the rain again
Falling on my head like a memory
Falling on my head like a new emotion

I too want to walk in the open wind but then I would get sick. Sorry I like to avoid soggy clothes so no rain walks for me.

  • Milli Vanilli - Blame It On the Rain

Blame it on the rain that was fallin’, fallin’
Blame it on the stars that didn’t shine that night
Whatever you do, don’t put the blame on you
Blame it on the rain, yeah, yeah
You can blame it on the rain

I blame the people who wanted to dupe us with Milli Vanilli especially the fact that the dudes COULD SING! I’m not over it…

  • Oran "Juice" Jones - The Rain

This is a good one but you should also watch the parody they did on SNL with Donald Glover. Keep you entertained on this rainy day.

  • New Edition - Can You Stand The Rain

    Sunny days, everybody loves them
Tell me, baby, can you stand the rain?
    Storms will come
This we know for sure (this we know for sure)
    Can you stand the rain?

Ok if it was raining then you can’t be wearing all that smooth gear. When you are in New Edition though, I guess you gotta stay fly at all times.

  • Guns & Roses - November Rain

    Nothin’ lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it’s hard to hold a candle
    In the cold November rain

Let this masterpiece talk. These are the guys who did Welcome to The Jungle! Talk about LAYERS!

  • Michael Ray - Whiskey And Rain

Yeah, whiskey and rain coming down, coming down
Splash of bourbon in a glass
Yeah, pouring something on the pain, let it drown, let it drown

I’ve had many a nights where Whiskey and Rain were the copy. Michael Ray was speaking to me here.

  • Prince - Purple Rain

And what better grand finale than the Purple One himself, Prince. You know the lyrics. You have felt it to you core. And of course the best halftime show ever. Cmon now! This is Rain!

  • Runners-Up

Some songs that didn’t make the cut but still have the rainy vibes:
