INGLEWOOD, CA - AUGUST 27: Nicki Minaj attends the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards at The Forum on August 27, 2017 in Inglewood, California.

Black TikTok creators are not having it, after some were unable to attend a Black History Month tailored to Black creators hosted by Nicki Minaj.

Famed Black TikTok creators are expressing their feelings over the alleged disrespect they received from the platform and the non-Black creators that attended the event.

According to some of the Black video creators, some were not even allowed to attend and were robbed of the chance to chat with Minaj:

“So @tiktok held an “exclusive Black History Month Zoom” with @NICKIMINAJ for us black creators but gave spots to NON BLACK creators over black creators who had received the invite AND then let the majority of questions for Nicki come from NON BLACK CREATORS. Make it make sense,” one TikTok creator tweeted.

They added,  “When we as a black community say we’re tired, we mean we’re tired. Businesses like @tiktok love to make big promises to the Black community, then exploit us & let us down. Huge thanks to @NICKIMINAJ for being so personable, inspiring, & genuine during the zoom.”

TikTok has a history of upsetting the Black creators on their platform; for example, Twitter has made them feel exploited by not getting credit for viral dance challenges that were popularized during the COVID-19 shutdown. It ultimately led to Black creators boycotting the platform last summer.

However, Nicki Minaj hopped on Instagram Live and said that she hears the Black creators and wants to reschedule another Zoom call with them.
