Spooky Season is upon us, so it is time to start thinking about Halloween costumes!

If you have kids, then you know this time of year they start to get crazy. Especially little kids. It took me a while to figure it out. I thought, is it the change in temperature? Do they sense going “back to school” even though they’re too young to have ever gone to school? Then, it dawned on me. It’s Spooky Season. Everyone gets a little crazy leading up to Halloween. There is definitely something in the air.

We were all kids once. Maybe you still get giddy with anticipation of ghosts and goblins. I know I do. I love to have the excuse to get dressed up in Halloween costumes as someone or something other than myself. And, if you are a school-aged kid, Halloween falls at exactly the right time. It gives you enough time to get settled into the school year, yet it is early enough that you can use it to reinvent yourself. What you go as for Halloween, can make or break your reputation. Do you want to be known as the classmate who slayed with his or her awesome costume? Or as the girl who wore her grandmother’s old-lady wig and crocheted shawl as Betsy Ross? Honestly, I’ll never get over that one. My mother hates Halloween and my reputation suffered greatly for it.

This year, pop culture will play a big role in what Halloween costumes you see at your door. There was the Super Mario movie and Barbie. I don’t think we will see too many children dressed as Oppenheimer. Taylor Swift took the nation by storm with her Eras Tour and speculation on her love life. The tween boys I know love anything cool that glows and there are even a few super cute ideas for the wee little ones this Halloween.

Happy Haunting!

  • Barbie in a Box

You’re going to see a lot of Barbies for Halloween this year. If you saw the movie, you know she is so much more than just a pretty blond in pink. Be creative and pick your Barbie to go in the box: Weird Barbie, Astronaut Barbie, Western Barbie … You get the idea.

  • Barbie’s Ken

He’s just Ken. Anywhere else he’d be a 10. Is it his destiny to live and die a life of blonde fragility? This is a great 80s feel costume too so if your kid is vibing with the Barbie movie and wants to go as Ken, this is a great option.

  • Cabbage Patch Kids

OMG. I can’t even. If one of these cuties came to my door … just take the whole bowl of candy. Take it all. You win Halloween.

  • Grimace

McDonald’s came out with a Grimace shake a few months ago, so this big purple guy is all the rage!

  • Mario

This guy never gets old. And with the release of the Super Mario Brothers movie earlier this year, Mario and Luigi are sure to be a popular pick!

  • Cowgirl inspired by Toy Story

“Sweet Mother of Abraham Lincoln!” This yodeling cowgirl is guaranteed to be a hit on the block while trick or treating this Halloween.

  • Light Up Mask & Gloves

I don’t know what this is, but I have a 12-year-old who thinks it’s amazing. And they’re under under $20. I might get two!

If Mom is Little Bo Peep, this little sheep is exactly who she’s looking for. I love these costumes for chilly Halloween nights. Keep the baby warm and adorable.

Tay-Tay took over the world in 2023! Put on your best Swiftie outfit and this spectacular wig to set yourself apart from the “fans.” You’re so much more than that.

  • Travis Kelce

I mean … if the rumors are true, and Taylor Swift is actually dating Travis Kelce, what a great bff costume idea (or Mom & Dad!).

  • Eagle Costume

Do you have a third in your party of Taylor and Travis? This might be what you need – here’s why: Travis Kelce’s brother Jason plays for the Eagles … and Taylor Swift is from just outside Philadelphia … Or it’s a good option because it’s just so cute.
