Nipsey Hussle Wins Posthumous Grammy For Best Rap Performance
The late Nipsey Hussle won the award for Best Rap Performance at the 62nd annual Grammy Awards for his single “Racks In The Middle.”
Nipsey Hussle’s longtime girlfriend at the time of his passing, actress Lauren London, accepted the award alongside his sister, Samantha Smith, his grandmother, and his brother, “Black Sam. ”
“God allowed him to use his music to speak his truth,” London said while accepting the award for her late lover before the Los Angeles rapper’s grandmother took the mic.
“I’m the grandmother of Nipsey Hussle and I wanted to thank all of you for showing all the love that I felt for him all of his life,” she said. “And will always love in my heart, so thank you. Thank you. Thank you.”
The Grammy Awards moved on to the next category, Best Rap Song, which 21 Savage won for his single ” A Lot,” but Nipsey Hussle’s brother interrupted the category announcement to add to London and Nipsey’s grandmother’s speeches.
He said that he didn’t want to disrespect any of the other nominees. However, he had something to say.
He lamented that his brother had lost Grammys that he had been nominated for in the past, but he said, “God’s plan is God’s plan. It’s not in anybody’s plan. It’s in God’s plan.”
Nipsey Hussle was fatally shot on March 31, 2019, outside of his apparel store The Marathon Clothing in Los Angeles.
