SZA Says She’s Recorded ‘100 Songs’ For New Album, Set To Drop Soon
SZA has revealed that she has recorded over 100 songs, adding that her highly anticipated sophomore album will arrive “any day” now.
TMZ caught up with the R&B singer at LAX Airport where she spilled some tea about her latest project. When asked how many songs she has recorded for her new album the singer responded, “Total? A hundred, maybe? Like, I don’t even know, actually,” she estimated. “Five years worth of material.”
CTRL was the singer’s debut LP which was released in 2017. It spawned 5 platinum singles and went 3x platinum itself. Earlier this year the New Jersey native dropped the deluxe version of CTRL (yes, five years later) and added six new songs to the tracklist. That included an alternate version of the Grammy-nominated hit “Love Galore.” Along with the original 14 tracks, she added, “2AM,” “Miles,” “Percolator,” “Tread Carefully,” “Awkward,” and “Jodie.”
Besides the songs from CTRL, the singer has dropped “Good Days,” “Hit Different” ft. Ty Dolla $ign and “I Hate U,” in recent years. She’s also been featured on several songs including Summer Walker’s “No Love,” Kali Uchis’ “Fue Major,” and Doja Cat’s Grammy-winning track “Kiss Me More.”
SZA has previously pointed the finger at Top Dawg Entertainment executive Terrence “Punch” Henderson for the delay of her sophomore album. The singer said “it’s 100% punch and rca on this one,” in an Instagram comment responding to a fan in July per HipHopDX. “I wanted the summer. They wanted more time. Atp I’m just tryna have a good time stress free lol.”
However, Punch cleared that up in an interview with Vulture back in August.
“It’s not really a secret. SZA’s coming very, very soon. We pretty much have the album done…We know exactly when it’s coming out,” he said. “But on the internet, you only get a certain amount of characters. You don’t have time to really go into a full explanation of what’s going on like that when you’re in the moment and tweeting something.”
