Quinta Brunson Claps Back At ‘Abbott Elementary’ Charter Storyline Critic
Quinta Brunson clapped back at a woman who criticized her academic background. Jeanne Allen of the Center for Education Reform came for Brunson for attending charter schools when her show Abbott Elementary recently had an episode about the negative impacts of turning public schools into a charter.
“I’ll share it again. The creator, lead writer and co-producer of @AbbottElemABC @quintabrunson is from West Philly and attended charter schools her entire education,” Allen I'll share it again.
The creator, lead writer and co-producer of @AbbottElemABC @quintabrunson
is from West Philly and attended charter schools her entire education. She reportedly loved it at the time, heaped praise on it. Once upon a time.
Guess money talks.
Brunson quickly responded, “you’re wrong and bad at research. I only attended a charter for high school,” she explained. “My public elementary school was transitioned to charter over a decade after I left. I did love my high school. That school is now defunct- which happens to charters often.”
“Loving something doesn’t mean it can’t be critiqued,” the Abbott creator added. “Thanks for watching the show :)”
Reactions to the Tweet
The viral exchange sparked several responses on Twitter. “lol this is so funny tho bc the whole show criticizes parts about the American education system in general imagine being like “Quinta Brunson has an education so she can’t criticize schools,” one fan wrote.
“Even if she did attend charter schools, quinta shouldnt have to answer to you,” one user Even if she did attend charter schools, quinta shouldnt have to answer to you. Do you think the creator of Jurassic park lived on an island with dinosaurs, Jeanne? Maybe fact check your claims before embarrassing yourself online.
“It’s a great show, but also a fictional comedy,” one fan It's a great show, but also a fictional comedy. I think someone's anger with education is misdirected
Sherryiln Ifill, the former President and Director-Counsel of LDF (NAACP Legal Defense Fund) also weighed in. “Pls ignore that woman trying to come for
@quintabrunson. Public school has been a punchline of sitcoms for decades. But when one show lifts up what can be wonderful & important about public schools & what is often problematic abt charter schools there’s pearl-clutching.Take a seat.”
Abbott Elementary airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on ABC.
