MC Lyte Joins ‘New York Undercover’ Reboot Pilot
Hip-Hop icon MC Lyte will be joining the cast of ABC’s New York Undercover pilot.
The actress and MC will be alongside Otmara Marrero (StartUp), Toby Sandeman (She’s Gotta Have It), Anna Enger (Chicago Med), and Octavio Pizano (If Loving You Is Wrong) for the contemporary reboot of the hit ’90s cop drama, according to Deadline Hollywood.
The four will be series regulars opposite Malik Yoba and Luna Lauren Velez, who both appeared in the original series from Dick Wolf that aired from 1994 to 1999.
Yoba and Velez will reprise their original respective roles as JC Williams and Nina Moreno. Lyte will portray Lt. April Freeman, who is a hard-driving boss with a genius IQ.
She has previously appeared on Starz’s Power, BET’s Tales, and USA’s Unsolved. The “Paper Thin” rapper also has recurring roles on Queen of the South and CBS’s S.W.A.T.
