RZA Sticks Up For Maroon 5 Being Picked For Half Time
There’s been quite a backlash when it comes to the choice of Half Time shows over the years, but this year, the internet seems extremely unhappy.
As Maroon 5 has been chosen for this year’s Half Time show, and the show is set in Atlanta, many are frustrated with the pick. Not only do many believe that someone from Atlanta should be repping the city, but Maroon 5 leans so far pop, it’s hard to think they will be well-received by everyone.
Especially since there’s been a really bad relationship between the NFL and the public as of late due to their rejection of kneeling during the National Anthem, it’s safe to say this is another slap in the face, considering the NFL could have picked a ton of Hip-Hop Atlanta-origin artists, including T.I., Gucci Mane, Ludacris, Jermaine Dupri, Young Jeezy, Lil’ Jon, Outkast, Waka Flocka Flame, 2 Chainz, and probably the hottest right now, the trio of Migos.
RZA of Wu-Tang Clan, however, decided to side with the NFL on this one, and defend the idea of Maroon 5, and Adam Levine. He was quoted by XXL saying the following:
“The climate, I don’t think should weigh on the music… The NFL has been going back and forth with great artists, you know. We had Beyonce, we had Bruno Mars, [Justin] Timberlake. I think [Maroon 5 front man] Adam Levine, and what he’s been doing on his TV show, cross-pollinating talent, he’s a pretty good example of a progressive artist’s mind… If you gonna bring somebody like that, in these times, at least you got a guy like Adam Levine, who may bring out Drake for us.”
Though most won’t agree with RZA, griping will probably not change the NFL’s decision.
