Nicki Minaj Gets Vulnerable About Past Drug Addiction

Nicki Minaj is opening up about her past drug addiction. In her first cover story with Vogue, the “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” hitmaker opened up about her Percocet addiction after being prescribed the pills after excruciating menstrual cramps.

“No one told me that this was a narcotic and this was addictive,” Nicki told the fashion magazine. “Luckily, I was able to ground myself.” She began to take the drug when she was not in pain, which led to her addiction.

She then name-dropped other celebrities who had bouts with addiction, such as Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Prince. While being constantly in the spotlight and criticized for what they do, she said they decide to “self-medicate and be in [their] own world.”

The Pink Friday creator added that her father, Robert Maraj, also suffered from addiction. The rapper said that she wished she could have understood what he was going through and that he was also a victim. He died in a hit-and-run car crash in 2021.

Nicki Minaj Is Gearing Up For Pink Friday 2

Nicki has been teasing her fifth studio album, Pink Friday 2, for quite some time. Last weekend, the rapper gave us a taste of what’s to come when she uploaded a snippet of an unreleased song on Instagram.

“I’m who you dying to be. Will somebody get all these groupies a ticket ’cause I’m who they dying to meet?” Nicki raps on the track.

While the snippet plays, photos of Nicki, the vinyl for Pink Friday 2, and hilarious memes cycle through while the rapper goes off on the brag-heavy record. She also dangles a sign for Pink Friday 2, indicating that the song will appear there, not the potential EP. She previously performed the untitled track at the 2023 Grammys.

Nicki teased a possible EP before the arrival of her fifth studio album over the weekend. “I think an EP with these songs is actually a great idea @RepublicRecords,” Nicki tweeted on Saturday (Nov. 4).

As of this writing, an official announcement has not been made about the EP. Pink Friday 2 is scheduled to drop on Dec. 8.

Earlier this year, Drake dubbed Lil Wayne “the greatest rapper to ever touch a mic” when he brought him out for the Dreamville Festival in April. Lil Wayne and Drake have worked together several times, such as “She Will,” “HYFR Hell Yeah F—— Right,” “Right Above It,” and more.

  Nicki Minaj and Drake are former label mates. They both were signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment in the early 2000s. They’ve also been frequent collaborators and have worked on “Only,” “Seeing Green,” “Moment 4 Life,” and more. The later was nominated for a 2012 Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance.

Scott was the only guest feature on Drake’s and 21 Savage’s Her Loss when he appeared on “P—- & Millions.”

  When Drake and Rick Ross get in the booth together they bring a rich feeling to whatever track they’re on. The two have collabed on “Aston Martin Music,” “Lemon Pepper Freestyle,” “Money In The Grave,” and more. While a collab album between the two would be a dream, Ross told PEOPLE in 2021 it’s still not set in stone. “Us doing a collab album is most definitely rumors… It’s speculation. But is it like a possible realistic possibility? Of course it is,” the Miami rapper said.

They’ve proven that they are better as when they do hit the studio they come up with classics. The pair have previously worked together on “Forever,” “Show Me A Good Time,” “Find Your Love,” and the “All Of The Lights (Remix).”

• Drake & J. Cole

  Drake and J. Cole have the least amount of collabs but they have an amazing chemistry in the booth and respect for one another’s art. The pair worked together on “In The Morning” and also Cole released a freestyle to Drake’s “Pipe Down” titled “Jodeci Freestyle (feat. J. Cole). Cole recently joined Drake on his Montreal tour stop for the It’s All A Blur Tour. He performed “No Role Modelz,” “Wet Dreamz” and “Middle Child.” Since 21 Savage was absent from the concert he also performed “A Lot,” which both artists appear on.
